LINAGORA Advances Sovereign Open-Source AI with Luciole Language Models, Powered by NVIDIA #Nemotron

OpenLLM 🇫🇷 🇪🇺 initiative promotes multilingual AI development through open data, models, and training code

Paris, France - 03.18.2026 : LINAGORA, a leader in the open source market in France, today announced progress in the development of the Luciole model family, a new generation of sovereign, open-source language models developed through the OpenLLM 🇫🇷 🇪🇺 consortium.

Founded in 2024, the consortium aims to accelerate multilingual artificial intelligence development by openly sharing training datasets, model weights, and training code. The initiative focuses on building smaller, specialized models designed for French and European use cases while supporting research in multilingual AI, including for low-resource languages.

The Luciole models, ncluding text and multimodal voice-text systems, were developed using NVIDIA Nemotron libraries such as NVIDIA NeMo and trained on the Jean Zay supercomputer, part of France’s sovereign AI infrastructure operated under the GENCI-led AI Factory France initiative.

The project also experiments with new architectures, including NVIDIA Nemotron-H hybrid Mamba-Transformer design used for the consortium’s 8-billion-parameter model.

By releasing the Luciole models as open source, LINAGORA aims to provide organizations with a sovereign AI alternative for applications requiring strong French-language capabilities. The models will power several LINAGORA platforms, including Twake Workplace, #OpenRAG, and #LinTO.

Initial versions of the Luciole models (1B, 8B, and 23B parameter sizes) are expected to be released in the coming weeks. Future releases will focus on improving French-language performance and expanding capabilities for educational content generation.
